How The Mind Of A Millionaire Works
1. Millionaires understand some goals take significantly longer than first thought. They overcome the challenge and carry on. Most people either procrastinate, or just give up.
I feel groggy all day. My brain feels like it’s in a fog, and my energy level is low. 2 or 3 cups of coffee wears off in 15-20 minutes, and really is no help.
I’ve developed the habits of consistently exercising for 30-60 min each day and eating healthy (this is supposed to INCREASE energy). So why am I not feeling energized? I’m tired of feeling tired.
Something’s got to change, and I suspect it’s my bad habit of not getting enough sleep.
Most adults need 7-9 hours of sleep each night. In my case, getting only 5-7 hours is normal (varies erratically throughout the week). So this is one habit I need to change.
But for me, falling asleep is difficult. Many times I’m physically exhausted, from getting the kids ready for bed and reading bedtime stories, but when 10 pm rolls around (my bedtime), I find my mind racing, thinking about all the things left undone.
I’ve scoured the internet in search of answers, and here are the top 4 that seem to make the most sense:

I’m going to try these out, and hopefully reverse the bad habit of too little sleep with the good habit of enough rest. Hopefully, this will be the key habit that will lead to improving other areas of my life on the way to reaching my goals.

Psychological research has shown that people who are able to create healthy habits don’t have more discipline, they have more self-compassion. Instead of beating themselves up for not being perfect every time, they ask how things could have gone differently. This takes them out of “I’m a lazy loser” mode and into problem-solving mode. Instead of thinking “I should have just dragged my tired butt out of bed and forced myself to go to the gym,” they think, “I was really tired today and it caused me to oversleep. I should try to get to bed earlier next time. Is that realistic?” They don’t see the situation as a problem with themselves; they see it as a puzzle to be figured out.
I call this a Problem-Solving Mindset. The Problem-Solving Mindset is powerful because it takes emotions out of the equation and forces you to address the reality of the situation. Rather than judging yourself for being lazy, you can acknowledge that you were tired and ask why.
Maybe you didn’t get enough sleep or have too many demands on you at work. What can you do so that you can feel well-rested when you wake up in the morning? You have self-compassion by acknowledging that oversleeping is a consequence of being tired and that being tired is normal when you don’t get enough restful sleep. Oversleeping doesn’t make you lazy; it means you need to figure out how to give yourself the fuel and rest you need to function at your best.
Instead of being harsh on yourself and performing worse under the pressure, you must take care of yourself so that you can perform better. There’s no value in beating yourself up. If your best friend or child were struggling with a similar situation, would you just assume they’re hopeless and give up on them? Of course not. You would be kind, listen to their concerns, do your best to point out the positives, and steer them toward the answer. You must treat yourself with the same dignity. Not only do you deserve it, it’s also the only way to solve your problem.
The healthiest people practice self-compassion when something they wanted to accomplish doesn’t go the way they’d hoped. This gives them the mental clarity and emotional distance to adopt the Problem-Solving Mindset and have the best shot at getting it right the next time.

In the US today, 1 of every 25 households have $1 million or more. In fact, 920,000 millionaires were minted globally in 2014, which is a 7% growth rate in one year! The vast majority of this club are first generation wealth, and not inherited.
This group of people is very diverse, and besides their wealth accumulation, has very little in common in terms of age, backgrounds, areas of specialization, intelligence, etc.
One of the few things they actually do have in common (which most people do not) is a set of beliefs about themselves. These folks have broken through their own self-limiting doubts and worries to achieve their financial goals.

I’ve made millions by trading penny stocks and teaching my students how to do the same, but what a lot of people don’t know about me is that I was a philosophy major in college.
If I hadn’t been willing to break through the fixed beliefs everyone was trying to sell me, I’d probably be flipping burgers today like so many other philosophy majors out there.
So that’s what I challenge you to think about today… What beliefs do you hold as reality that might not be true at all?
Do you think that it’s too late for you to be a millionaire? It’s not. Age doesn’t matter. You can absolutely still achieve success if you’re willing to work hard and recognize you need a different approach to turn a small portfolio into a wealthy account.
Do you think that you had to be born into your millions? You don’t. I come from a middle class background in Connecticut (not even the nice part). My parents aren’t wealthy, and I don’t have any kind of inheritance to fall back on. Everything I’ve earned, I’ve earned myself. You can do the same if you’re serious about becoming a millionaire.
Do you think you’re too stupid to be a millionaire? You’re not. Millionaires aren’t all nerdy Bill Gates types. More often than not, they’re people who figured out a system for building wealth and worked that system, day-in and day-out, without thinking too much about how or why it works. I’m not a genius, and I’m far from the smartest person hanging out on my forums. Believe me when I say that if I can do it, so can you.
Those are just three examples. Maybe you fall into them, maybe you don’t. If you don’t, there are probably other self-limiting thoughts that are holding you back from your financial future that you need to weed out and eliminate.
To get started, think about the wealthiest person you know, whether that’s me or somebody else in your life. If you catch yourself thinking, “I could never do what they’ve done,” ask yourself why. Really dig down. What makes you think you aren’t capable of doing the same thing? Then, explore why you think those things. Are they actually good reasons, or are they things you’ve told yourself for so long that you’ve turned them into your reality?
I’d be willing to bet that your reasons aren’t reasons at all — they’re excuses. Make it your mission to find them and destroy them. Join the rest of us who have escaped the cave and banished the self-imposed limitations that would have otherwise kept us from becoming wealthy.
